A second man, Gareth Slater, has been charged by police following a manhunt that lasted three days over an incident in Rotherham involving kidnapping and a stabbing.
Slater has now been remanded into the custody of South Yorkshire Police and he is set to appear in Sheffield Magistrates Court on Monday 2 July. Police from South Yorkshire chased a car after a man was stabbed inside a Fiat Punto at a petrol station on Stadium Way and the vehicle fled the scene.
Police chased the car and officers managed to stop it on Meadow Bank Road shortly before 8.10pm. A man aged 39 had been stabbed inside the vehicle and he was taken to hospital where he was given treatment for stab wounds said to be serious.
A police dog belonging to South Yorkshire Police was stabbed during the incident when it was sent to help to detain the man. The dog was said to be in the care of vets undergoing treatment to the stab wound. Craig Berridge from Rawmarsh, aged 38, has been charged with offences in connection with the incident.
Slater was arrested on Saturday following an extensive manhunt for him and people helping to locate him after they launched an urgent appeal.
